Our Mission
The American Academy of Catholic Women (AACW) is a community of female scholars and students who integrate their Catholic faith with the pursuit of excellence in their academic vocations.
The Academy forms and supports female Catholic academics for service in Catholic and non-Catholic colleges and universities, as well as for other academic and academic-adjacent institutions.
It also seeks to encourage and uplift female Catholic graduate students and academics navigating the challenges of motherhood, consecrated life, and academic life, promoting flourishing across each of these vocations and a noble service to the Church and the world.
The American Academy of Catholic Women is a flagship initiative of the James Cardinal Gibbons Institute for Human Ecology.
All members must be in good standing with the Catholic Church and affirm a Statement of Faith & a Statement of Feminine Vocation to be renewed each year.
Who We Serve
The AACW’s membership will initially be open to Catholic women serving as lecturers, researchers, or professors in any scholarly capacity (full-time, part-time, or on leave) at any American college or university.
As the organization grows, membership opportunities will be extended to include Catholic women writers and authors, as well as Catholic professional women in a variety of fields. It is hoped that the branches of the Academy will provide nourishment and community for women whose particular needs have gone unnoticed until now.
